XII INTERNATIONAL FORUM «ECOLOGY OF BIG CITY» OPENS IN SAINT-PETERSBURG 20 MARCH 2012

The Forum is organized under the support and with participation of the Government of St. Petersburg, the Government of the Leningrad Region, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Regional Development of the Russian Federation, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, professional associations, specialized and business mass-media.

The International Environmental Forum “Ecology of Big City” includes business program, exhibition program and guided tours of environmental facilities of St. Petersburg.

The business program will start with the conference, devoted to the issues of the development and realization of environmental policy in Russian cities, with respect to transfer of additional powers in the sphere of environmental protection to Russian regions and cities (municipal entities).

Panel discussions, seminars and round-table discussions will cover the following topics: household and industrial waste management; organization of environmental monitoring in cities; information support of environmental activities to assist managerial decision-making in municipal entities; geological risks impact on the city development; elimination of environmental damage caused by previous production activities (land rehabilitation); introduction of innovative environmental technologies and equipment, including the issues of drinking water supply and wastewater treatment, environmental restoration of water bodies, etc.

The exhibition area of the International Environmental Forum “Ecology of Big City” will be divided into several sections: Waste management: technologies and equipment; Innovative environmental technologies and equipment (Ecoinnovations); Equipment for environmental monitoring (Ecomonitoring); Equipment, technologies, services for land rehabilitation (Ecorecultivation); Software for environmental activities (Ecosoft).

The program of the Forum includes organization of the guided tours of the environmental facilities of the city, including waste collection and treatment companies, the facilities of the SUE “Vodokanal of St. Petersburg” (waterworks), the automated system of the air quality monitoring of St. Petersburg, the state environmental information system “Environmental Passport of St. Petersburg”, etc.

The Forum is one of few congress-and-exhibition events that offer the participants an opportunity to meet their target visitors and to establish many efficient business contacts.

The organizers are convinced that the Forum “Ecology of Big City” will support the promotion of ideas and solutions in the sphere of environmental protection, as well as demonstration of innovative environmental equipment and services to ensure maximum ecological safety in regions and municipal entities of Russia.

Outcomes of the Forum-2011:

182 exhibitors from Russia, Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, the USA, Ukraine, Finland, France, Czechia, Sweden, Estonia. The total exhibition area was over 5.000 sq. m.

4 exhibitions, 2 specialized expositions, 18 events of the business program and 5 visits to industrial sites were attended by 3.500 experts from 73 Russian cities and 21 foreign countries: Austria, Belorussia, Brazil, Germany, India, Italy, China, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, the USA, Ukraine, Finland, France, Sweden, Estonia, Ethiopia, the Republic of South Africa).
